The propaganda and disinformation networks, specialized in manipulations, deceptions, and promotion of half-truths have once again been activated with Romania as their target. The protagonist is once again the former candidate Călin Georgescu, who is portrayed as a “political martyr” and on whose behalf calls are made for the “protection of democracy in Romania”. This refers to a recent opinion article published just yesterday by the American publication Newsweek, which was removed from the site today. A few things stand out when you read this article. First of all, it’s about the author, a certain Dennis Portman. The name seems like a common English name, so the idea is for the article to have an aura of objectivity from the very beginning.

Newsweek clarified for HotNews that the opinion piece signed by Dennis Portman was published “by mistake”. Jennifer H. Cunningham, the editor-in-chief of the American publication, stated that the material did not meet Newsweek’s editorial standards.

She clarified that the material had been sent by a collaborator and ended up being published on Newsweek.com by mistake, even though it did not meet the publication’s editorial standards.

“The article was immediately removed as soon as concerns about its content were brought to our attention. We are reviewing our internal procedures to ensure that such a situation does not happen again.”

The clarifications from Newsweek come after HotNews contacted the American editorial office to request information about the author Dennis Portman, who signed the opinion piece published on August 11 and titled “The US must defend democracy and Călin Georgescu in Romania”.
