The Greek shipping company Dynagas has delivered Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) worth 2.35 billion euros to EU customers in the first seven months of 2026, according to a report published on August 18 by the organization Urgewald, which monitors sanctions, reports Kyiv Independent.
The analysis comes a few weeks after EU leaders agreed to grant Dynagas an exemption from sanctions, allowing the company to continue LNG transportation to third countries after the enforcement, in January 2027, of the EU ban on Russian LNG imports.
Urgewald asserts that the Greek company transported 35% of the total volume of LNG sent to the EU from the Yamal arctic terminal in Russia, from where 63% of Russian LNG exports originate, according to the Kyiv School of Economics.
This means that Dynagas alone transports approximately 22% of the entire LNG exported by Russia.
“Scandalously, Greece has obtained in the negotiations regarding EU sanctions a derogation from which Dynagas, the company of billionaire George Prokopiou, and the business it continues to conduct with Yamal LNG, could benefit,” stated Sebastian Roetters, responsible for the sanctions campaign within Urgewald.
“The EU has weakened one of the most powerful pressure tools it had on Russia’s Arctic trade.”
