A Russian retiree is liable after opening fire on drones flying near his residence, according to Moscow press reports, quoted by EFE.
The man was fined by a court in the village of Ilan in the Volgograd region, reported to the Viorstka publication, according to Agerpres.
The pensioner has to pay 40,000 rubles, approximately 470 dollars, after he tried to shoot down drones with a rifle.
After the incident, the man called the emergency number to report the attack, indicating the location where the alleged remnants of the destroyed drones would have been.
When he attacked the decision, the retiree clarified in his defense that he used the weapon because he was “afraid for public safety and the lives of those around him”, considering that unidentified drones could be potential sabotage devices, writes the independent Russian publication Meduza.
His appeal was rejected, the judge stating that he found no evidence “that his actions were forced or that he faced a danger that could not have been eliminated by other means”.
