Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that he is considering changing the name of Lake Ontario to “America”. The statement comes amid the intensification of the trade war between the United States and Canada.
“The United States is seriously considering changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America, given that we do not expect to do much business with Ontario anymore,” Trump wrote in a post on his social network, Truth Social.
The Canadian Minister responsible for trade with the USA, Dominic LeBlanc, stated that Ottawa will not comment on the social media posts of the American administration, reports news.ro.
“We decided, as a federal government, a few months ago, not to respond to the daily posts on social networks, whether from the president or his cabinet secretaries,” LeBlanc stated in an interview given to CNBC.
Trump’s threat to rename Lake Ontario comes after he changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America last year.
