The Strategic Missile Forces of Russia conducted a launch training of an intercontinental ballistic missile on August 28, announced the Ministry of Defense in Moscow. The exercise took place at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region, to “confirm the technical and flight characteristics”.
Simultaneously, Russian troops also practiced the relocation of a launch battery of a mobile ground missile system to a remote area. According to the Ministry of Defense, the exercise was successful, and the warheads reached the designated area on the Kura testing range in Kamchatka.
The Ministry did not specify what type of missile was tested. The Moscow Times writes that it could be about Topol or Yars, which have a range of over 10,000 and can reach the USA.
Russia holds a total of 271 missiles of this type. The exercises with missiles that can also carry nuclear payloads took place three days after the visit to Moscow by the head of the CIA.
