NATO and EU countries are pressuring Spain and Greece to supply Ukraine with missiles for Patriot systems. An option is being considered where Norway would acquire them, then transfer them to Kiev.
Such an agreement is expected to be discussed at a meeting of the EU defense and foreign affairs ministers, which will take place in Dublin, on September 1 and 2.
Spain and Greece hold some of the largest stocks of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems, reports The Moscow Times. However, Bloomberg writes that some of these reserves are already nearing the end of their lifespan.
Spain had previously promised to provide Ukraine with a military aid of 1 billion euros by 2026. Meanwhile, Greece was one of the first countries to send ammunition to Kiev, following the Russian invasion, but recently refused to provide missiles for the air defense system.
Athena explains this by the necessity to maintain a full arsenal, due to its difficult relations with Turkey.
