Vladimir Putin went through an awkward moment during a visit to a maritime station in Vladivostok. The Russian president tried to address the crew of a fishing trawler, but received no response, according to images that appeared on social networks.
During the visit, Putin climbed onto the command deck of the fishing vessel “Captain Yunak” and took hold of the ship’s communication system microphone. The Kremlin leader tried to speak directly with the crew members.
“Good day, comrades, can you hear me?”, Putin said into the microphone.
After the question, the Russian president waited a few seconds for an answer, but it did not come. Putin was left awkwardly in front of the microphone, seemingly waiting for the crew members to react.
According to the report dialog accompanying the images shared online, the communication system used by Putin would have functioned in one direction only and would have been intended for transmitting messages to the crew, not for a two-way conversation.
In the respective images, around the Russian president, crew members and security agents can be seen, while Putin awaits a response. The moment was captured by cameras on the scene and later reached social networks, where it was presented as an unusual and embarrassing episode for the Russian leader.
It is not clear from the images whether Putin was subsequently informed about the operation of the ship’s communication system.
