The United States would not activate Article 5 of the NATO Treaty if Russia were to attack Romania. This is one of the main conclusions of a war game organized in Washington, where a Russian attack on Europe was simulated in 2028, according to the Washington Post.
The simulation was organized by the Brooks Institute within Cornell University and the Rockefeller Foundation, writes Antena3. The event was attended by current members of the US Congress, as well as former military personnel, diplomats, and representatives of the American secret services.
“We are in 2028. The fate of the bloody war in Ukraine remains undecided, and Russia sees an opportunity to divide Europe by attacking the Republic of Moldova. A Russian drone then strikes a fuel tank in Romania, a NATO country, causing the death of several civilians,” specified WP columnist, David Ignatius, who participated in this exercise.
During the simulation, members of the US Congress agreed with the notion that Americans would not support the idea of the United States’ involvement in a war. The results showed that such a scenario, without support from Washington, would make Europe more fragmented and disorganized.
