Moscow is now striking targets indiscriminately throughout Ukraine, in response to the intensification of attacks from Kiev on Russian territory, stated the Kremlin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, on September 13.
Peskov maintained that Russia has so far avoided indiscriminate attacks, but has changed its approach after Ukraine began targeting Russian economic and strategic infrastructure.
“The Russian Federation did not strike anything and anyone,” Peskov told reporters. “It began to do this after the Ukrainians themselves opened Pandora’s box.”
Peskov’s statements echoed the previous warning of Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to whom Ukraine “opened Pandora’s box” by hitting Russian economic targets. Putin stated on August 22 that Moscow will retaliate by targeting the “sensitive economic sectors” of Ukraine.
“(Ukraine) has aimed to affect our economy. What did it do? It opened this Pandora’s box itself. Expect a response that will target your most sensitive economic sectors“, Putin declared at the end of August.
Moscow has dramatically increased the number of jet-engine attack drones it has been launching against Ukraine in recent weeks, with Kiev facing particularly intense and almost constant attacks.
