The wedding of Donald Trump Jr., the son of American President Donald Trump, in the Bahamas would have benefited from funding of hundreds of thousands of dollars from Umar Kremlev, a Russian businessman considered close to Vladimir Putin, according to an investigation published by ProPublica. Kremlev would have also paid for the rental of one of the private islands where the guests were hosted, as well as the fireworks.
The event unfolded over the course of three days, in May, in the Bahamas. According to ProPublica, two private islands were rented, and the costs for one of them were borne by Kremlev.
The investigation of the American publication is based on documents and interviews with people familiar with the event organization. The money would have been transferred through an entity based in Dubai, affiliated with the International Boxing Association (IBA), an organization led by Kremlev.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars for the party in the Bahamas
According to ProPublica, one of the private islands was used for guest accommodation and reception. The cost of such a property can reach approximately $100,000 per night.
Kremlev would have also borne the costs of a fireworks show launched from a boat. ProPublica reports that the said service would have cost approximately 70,000 dollars.
The actual wedding was a small one, with about 18 guests. Subsequently, the party organized over the course of three days gathered around 50 people.
Donald Trump Jr. described the event as a private gathering, attended by “very close friends”.
