The American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, expressed his concern on Wednesday that the war between Russia and Ukraine could spread to other countries following incidents caused by hybrid attacks or sabotage, or even a simple misunderstanding that could trigger a direct armed conflict, reports dpa and Agerpres.
“One of our concerns, among many others, regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine is that it could metastasize and spread to other places,” Rubio declared to the press, after a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
This war “could escalate into something else, either through a hybrid attack, sabotage, or misunderstanding – you know how it is, a pilot went the wrong way and suddenly we find ourselves in an active confrontation,” explained the head of American diplomacy.
“We are concerned about these matters. We have brought them up in multiple meetings with various countries, as they represent a real concern,” emphasized Rubio.
He gave this answer after being asked by a journalist about an alleged sabotage attempt that Germany attributes to Russia following the discovery of an explosive drone at the German airport Leipzig near a Ukrainian transport plane, but Rubio did not directly address this case in his broader response.
