The eight main airports in Germany will have, starting this week, a new drone detection system in the airspace, announced on Monday the Ministry of Transport in Berlin, reports EFE, quoted by Agerpres.
“We are systematically expanding the drone detection systems at our airports. This sets up an important technical basis for early detection of potential threats and quick notification of relevant authorities,” stated the Minister of Transportation, Steffen Bilger.
The new detection systems, operated by the German Air Traffic Control Authority (DFS), will allow the issuance of early warnings to the country’s security forces.
The same systems are already installed at seven other major airports in Germany, with only Leipzig airport remaining to be equipped with these devices this week.
Thus, “the main eight commercial airports in Germany will be equipped with modern drone detection systems in their landing and takeoff areas”, according to Bilger, whose ministry is working on drone security in coordination with the Ministry of Interior.
