Russia would be interested in a potential trilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, American President Donald Trump, and Chinese President Xi Jinping, on the sidelines of the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) summit in China, stated Yuri Ushakov, the Kremlin’s foreign policy advisor, on Tuesday, according to Reuters, as reported by Agerpres.
The summit is scheduled to take place on November 18 and 19. Ushakov said that the idea is still in an early stage and that no other practical details have been established yet.
He added that China, the host of the APEC summit, will set up the meeting’s agenda and there will likely be opportunities for a trilateral meeting.
The possibility of a meeting with Donald Trump and Xi Jinping was mentioned by the Russian president also at the beginning of last month by Yuri Ushakov, but so far the White House has not confirmed a possible participation of Donald Trump.
Since the launch of its offensive in Ukraine in February 2022, Moscow, isolated by the West, has significantly drawn closer to Beijing.
Vladimir Putin met with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping at the end of August in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on the occasion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
The APEC Summit (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation), a significant regional economic cooperation forum that includes Russia, China, and the USA, is set to take place in Shenzen on November 18 and 19.
