The Kremlin denounced on Wednesday the “militarization” of the European Union, a day after France tested its new intercontinental missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, an event attended by President Emmanuel Macron, reports AFP, according to Agerpres. Peskov emphasized that the EU “bases its identity in matters of defense and security on confrontation with Russia” and described this policy as a ‘”dead end”.’
“It is a strong and clear message (…). Europe is obsessed with the idea of militarization“, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, Dmitri Peskov, told journalists, estimating that the EU “is seeking to transform this economic bloc into a political-military one“.
Peskov appreciated that the EU “bases its identity in defense and security matters on confrontation with Russia”, qualifying this policy as a ‘”dead-end road”‘.
“In the face of such aggressive actions and such projects, Russia remains vigilant and \”takes all necessary measures to ensure its security\”, he added, also stating that Moscow remains \”open to dialogue\”.
“We believe that any problem should be solved not through demonstrative missile strikes, but through dialogue,” declared Peskov.
Emmanuel Macron attended on Tuesday morning a first test with the M51.3 strategic ballistic missile, ground-to-sea, without a nuclear payload, launched from a submarine off Finistere, in Brittany.
