Russia has already developed scenarios for a war with Europe in the next 19 years. Poland or the Baltic countries could be among the potential targets of the aggressor, according to the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, reports RBC-Ukraine.
The Ukrainian intelligence services have emphasized that one of Russia’s main objectives is currently undermining the European support given to Ukraine. To achieve this goal, Moscow resorts to hybrid warfare tactics, including sabotage, cyber attacks, influence operations, disinformation, drone incursions, and espionage.
According to Ukrainian intelligence services, 400 agents of the Russian secret services are currently operating in European countries. They are testing the limits of what is permitted within the framework of NATO’s collective defense system.
“It would be a mistake to assume that Russia has given up the prospect of a direct military confrontation with Europe. On the contrary, Moscow considers it one of its potential military conflict scenarios until 2045. Six of these scenarios target Northern Europe. Also, intense work is being done on developing scenarios involving Poland and the Baltic states,” emphasized the Ukrainian intelligence service.
The agency explained that Putin’s regime needs an external enemy to justify its policies, mobilize society, and maintain control over it. One of the scenarios involves triggering a regional crisis on NATO’s eastern flank. The Baltic states are among the most vulnerable countries. Russia might try to demonstrate that the Alliance is not capable of responding quickly enough to defend its members.
“The Russian threat to Europe has long surpassed the possibility of a direct attack from Moscow. Russia is preparing for a long-term confrontation in which the Ukrainian and European fronts are interconnected“, emphasized the intelligence service.
