Vladimir Putin signed a decree regarding the deployment of spring conscription for compulsory military service. According to the published document, during the campaign that will take place from April to June, 160,000 recruits will be sent to the army. According to current legislation, citizens between the ages of 18 and 30 are subject to conscription.

The leader of the state ordered the government, regional executive authorities and recruiting commissions to organize all necessary measures in order to promptly and efficiently fulfill the recruitment plan.

The following campaign will be the largest in the past 14 years. The last time the number of recruits was higher was in 2011, when the Ministry of Defense sent 203,000 people to the military. However, by the fall of that year, only 135,000 were recruited. Starting in 2012, the number of recruits in the spring and fall campaigns did not exceed 155,500. For comparison, in the spring of 2021, 134,650 people were sent to the military, while in the fall – 127,500.

In the first year of the war with Ukraine, in the spring, 134,500 recruits were sent to military service, and in the fall – 120,000. In 2023, the numbers increased: 147,000 in the spring and 130,000 in the fall. This trend continued in 2024: 150,000 in the spring and 133,000 in the fall.
