“Currently, drones equipped to transport explosives are the critical weapons holding the front line against Russia on the Ukrainian battlefield, not high-value Western military technology, reports Kyiv Post.”

Images showing a thwarted attack by Russian tanks, with the support of artillery, have been released by the Ukrainian drone unit, Group Perun. In the aftermath of the assault, over a dozen Russian tanks, infantry vehicles, and armored personnel carriers were abandoned along a road and fields near the village of Novomihailivka, near Avdiivka, in the Donetsk region.

Other images of the clash published by the Ukrainian military on January 27 showed that the Russian attack, which occurred in broad daylight, was stopped after hitting a minefield. Afterward, Russian soldiers came under fire from Ukrainian artillery, forcing them to abandon their destroyed vehicles and attempt to continue on foot.

Video footage, geolocated by Kyiv Post south of Novomyhailivka, shows how commercial drones track, target, and launch grenades at Russian troops and release explosives over multi-million dollar tanks, causing catastrophic explosions.

The same scene occurred at least twice in the past week, on January 21 and 25, according to the 79th Air Assault Brigade, of which Group Peru is a part, and other sources.

On average, daily losses for the Russian army in the Novomihailivka battlefield, according to analysts at Osint, are estimated at 5-10 tanks, 10-20 armored vehicles of all types, and 100-120 soldiers killed or seriously injured.

Reports have been increasing that, along the front line – as the Kremlin has once again launched an offensive trying to take advantage of Ukraine’s artillery ammunition shortage – Russian troops have had similar results to those seen in Novomihailivka. Well-equipped columns approach Ukrainian lines, vehicles are stopped by mines, artillery, or even mud, and then soldiers abandon their damaged vehicles to be ruthlessly hunted by swarms of drones.
