The war launched by Vladimir Putin almost 2 years ago continues despite tens of thousands of military deaths on both sides. Former NATO commander, American Admiral James Stavridis gives the verdict on the end of the conflict. He believes that the war in Ukraine will end like the one in Korea, with Russia maintaining its territories in the neighboring country, but Kiev joining the North Atlantic Alliance.

Retired admiral from the United States Navy says that both Russia and Ukraine “are increasingly exhausted by this war,” and this could lead to negotiations between the two states towards the end of 2024, according to Business Insider.

“In the end, this will end like the Korean War, which means that Russia will probably continue to control part of Ukraine, Crimea, and the land corridor to Russia,” retired American Admiral James Stavridis said on the radio show “The Cats Roundtable” on 77 WABC radio in the United States.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. The long-lasting conflict has seen Russia facing crippling sanctions from the West, while Ukraine has relied on Western support for its war efforts.

“Both Russia and Ukraine are increasingly exhausted by this war in terms of their military capabilities and in terms of the economic sanctions that are imposed by both sides,” Stavridis told John Catsimatidis on the radio.

“When I put it all together, John, I think towards the end of this year, probably after the US elections, we have a moment for a potential negotiation,” Stavridis said.

In September 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a decree stating that peace talks were “impossible” with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
