A major Russian forces attack on central Kiev sparked a fire in a multi-story residential building and targeted energy facilities on Friday morning, disrupting power supply in some parts of the capital, officials said.
The Mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, said that nine people were injured, five of them being transported to the hospital. He noted that power outages and water supply disruptions affected neighborhoods on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River, which runs through the city, according to Reuters.
Images posted online showed apartments in flames, as firefighters intervened on the scene. Fragments from downed drones also hit several areas of the city.
The Minister of Energy, Svitlana Grynciuk, stated that Russian forces hit energy facilities.
“Energy specialists are taking all necessary measures to minimize negative consequences,” Grynciuk wrote on Facebook.
Russian forces have focused on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in recent weeks.
