The Russian government has approved a bill that grants Russian President Vladimir Putin the authority to call upon reservists not only in times of war or official mobilization, but also in peacetime, including operations abroad, according to Agerpres.

Russia, reminds in this context United24Media.com, launched the invasion in Ukraine without an official declaration of war, Moscow calling the offensive in the neighboring state a “special military operation”.

Where Russian reservists can be sent

According to the provisions of the respective bill, citizens included in the mobilization reserve could be used in missions related to defense during armed conflicts, anti-terrorist operations or when Russian forces are deployed abroad.

The law will only apply to those who have signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and are registered in the reserve forces. Currently, the legislation allows the use of reservists only in times of war or in the case of mobilization campaign, without provisions regarding deployment in peacetime, according to The Moscow Times.
