Russia has begun to produce large quantities of long-range missiles, enough not only for a massive bombing of Ukraine, but also for preparing future attacks in other potential war theaters. US Army Secretary, Dan Driscoll, issued this warning at a meeting with European diplomats in Kiev, sources told The New York Times.
According to them, Trump’s envoy mentioned the growing threat from Russia during discussions about the American peace plan. European diplomats interpreted this as a hint from Washington that the war in Ukraine needs to be ended as soon as possible.
At the same time, as the NYT notes, it is unlikely that Russia will significantly reduce military production after the end of the hot phase of the conflict. However, the peace agreement is expected to deprive Moscow of a “potential pretext” for missile or drone attacks against European countries. EU diplomats present at the meeting with Driscoll called Russia’s missile buildup “alarming”, noting that the US warning “resonated” with European concerns.
