NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, responded on Wednesday, after a meeting of the allies, to the aggressive comments of Vladimir Putin who said he is “ready for war” with Europe.
“Ultimately, NATO is a defensive alliance. We will remain a defensive alliance, but make no mistake, we are prepared and willing to do whatever is necessary to protect our 1 billion people and secure our territory,” Rutte said.
According to the official, Russia continues its brutal war against Ukraine, increasingly hitting its people and critical infrastructure as winter sets in.
“Russia also demonstrates increasingly reckless behavior towards NATO, such as violating our airspace, carrying out cyber attacks, and deploying ships to map the submarine infrastructure of the allies. These incidents have highlighted the need for unwavering vigilance”, the NATO Secretary General further stated.
