Vladimir Putin’s two-day visit to India, his first in 2022 since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, will include significant discussions on military cooperation between the two countries. According to Bloomberg, the Russian Federation and India have concluded a multi-year negotiation process for the Indian army to lease a nuclear submarine.
The event can be seen as a turning point for the government in New Delhi, which has been attempting to perform a tense balancing act between Russia and Western countries in the context of the invasion of Ukraine. In the past, the US threatened to impose sanctions after India finalized a deal for the S-400 air defense systems.
Moreover, according to The Hindu, the State Duma of Russia ratified a key military pact with India on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, ahead of President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to New Delhi. The reciprocal exchange of logistic support (RELOS), signed on February 18 between the two governments, was sent to the Duma last week for ratification by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
