Lithuania is testing an aerial surveillance system developed in Ukraine to protect against threats posed by drones, announced on Friday the Minister of Defense, Robertas Kaunas.

“Aerial threats are changing rapidly, so we adapt our solutions accordingly. Instead of developing everything from scratch, we adapt systems that have already been used in Ukraine,” said Kaunas.

Ukraine, now in its fifth year of defense against a large-scale Russian invasion, is considered a world leader in drone warfare, writes hotnews.ro.

According to Lithuanian authorities, the “Sky Fortress” system uses artificial intelligence to detect and track drones and cruise missiles flying at low altitude, based on their acoustic or electromagnetic signatures. The equipment can classify the detected objects in real time.

Several incidents involving drones have already occurred in Lithuania and the other two Baltic states, Estonia and Latvia, in the context of the war in Ukraine. On several occasions, Ukrainian drones launched by Kiev to hit targets in northwestern Russia have deviated from their course due to Russian jamming and entered the airspace of the Baltic countries, where they crashed. Also, Russian drones coming from Belarus, have entered the airspace of Lithuania.
