The Polish authorities have arrested a Russian who had been hired by Moscow to assassinate a Ukrainian and American citizen in Warsaw. The information was revealed by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The official told reporters that the suspect was detained on August 7. He was allegedly recruited to kill a man “inconvenient to the Putin regime”. Tusk did not announce the name, status, position, or profession of the victim.
“Thanks to the truly brilliant action of our services (…) we detained a Russian citizen recruited by Russian intelligence services. (…) At the last moment, thanks to the action of the Internal Security Agency and the police, we managed to prevent this execution, this attack,” Tusk declared.
The Russian Embassy in Warsaw has not commented on the subject. Moscow has consistently rejected allegations regarding such actions, accusing the West of fueling anti-Russian paranoia.
In June, a Russian artist who criticized President Vladimir Putin was fatally shot in the city of Biala Podlaska, in eastern Poland, according to prosecutors, reports hotnews.ro.
Poland asserts that its role as a hub for providing support to Ukraine has turned it into a target for Russian espionage and attacks.
