At the Information and Security Service (SIS), there is a separate room, filled with cabinets of files to which the former deputy of the institution, Alexandru Bălan, had access. The latter was initially detained in Romania and accused of treason, then extradited to the Republic of Moldova and later handed over to the authorities in Belarus.
The revelation was made by the current head of Moldova’s Security, Alexandru Musteață, during an interview conducted by Nicolae Chicu, writes realitatea.md. According to him, all the information that Alexandru Bălan had access to is considered compromised.
“All the files with agents, the files with undercover officers, the files with operational investigations, operations, all have been set aside. A commission has been created that works and investigates, case by case. Well, they took them according to priorities. First of all, the agency and all the respective information is considered compromised. Probably, it has already been delivered. If there are any current activities, they have been stopped. Whether it’s about involved agents, we must already consider them exposed or compromised. (…) We have a separate room where this subject is being worked on, it’s very large. Cabinets of files”, said Musteață.
The SIS Director also revealed that Alexandru Bălan is currently in Minsk, where he has been granted accommodation. His family, likewise, has moved there.
