Aleksandar Vučić warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not lying about the use of nuclear weapons. The former President of Serbia maintains that Putin will respond with nuclear weapons if Russia is attacked.
The statements were made during an interview. The former president of Serbia said that Putin does not lie about the use of nuclear weapons and that any other interpretation is a misjudgment. Vučić also announced that he has warned Western leaders about the Russian president’s strategy, writes Mediafax.
“When people started saying that Putin is lying about the use of nuclear weapons, I told everyone in the West: Putin is not lying at all. Of course, he doesn’t want to use them just like that. Nobody is crazy. But, in the event of a direct attack from abroad, from America, Europe, or Great Britain, anyone, he will respond with nuclear weapons at that moment. Many people believe that this will not happen, that NATO is stronger than Russia. If you truly believe that he will not use nuclear weapons under any circumstances, then this is a very big misjudgment”, said Aleksandar Vučić according to a transcript made by Clash Report.
Russia’s strategy regarding nuclear weapons
Russia has repeatedly used the threat of nuclear weapons to discourage Western military support for Ukraine and to warn NATO about a possible escalation of the conflict. In 2024, Vladimir Putin approved a new nuclear doctrine of Russia that lowers the threshold regarding the use of nuclear weapons.
Also, Russia has transferred tactical nuclear weapons to the territory of Belarus and extended its deterrence umbrella over it as well. The doctrine approved in 2024 allows for a nuclear response even in the case of massive conventional attacks that threaten the sovereignty of Russia or its ally in Belarus.
