A spy of Moscow’s secret services, who claimed to be a member of the opposition who had fled from Russia after Russia invaded Ukraine, was exposed by his own wife, who accused him of working for the FSB. This happened during an argument, and then the woman claimed that it was all just an “unfortunate joke”. That “joke”, however, led to an investigation as a result of which her husband ended up in prison in Poland, writes The New York Times.
Igor Rogov and his wife often argued, and their roommate, another Russian in exile, heard all the scandal through the thin walls of the dormitory they shared in the Polish city of Sosnowiec, in the south of the country. At one point, on April 21, 2023, the wife sent a message to the roommate: “Did you know that Igor reported about you and another guy to the FSB?”, she wrote to Danila Buzanov.
The FSB is the Russian spy service. Irina Rogova, Igor Rogov’s wife, a little-known opposition activist who had left Russia a few days after Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, accused her husband of spying on other exiles for the Russian government. She made the same accusation in a group message sent to friends. As the rumors spread, Igor Rogov and Irina Rogova tried to downplay the incident, saying that she made an “unfortunate joke” while they were going through a divorce.
