A man working for the Polish Ministry of Defense was detained on Tuesday morning, February 3, suspected of collaborating with Russian intelligence services.

According to the Polish news site Onet, a mid-level staff member was detained by the Polish Military Counterintelligence Service at his workplace, shortly after 08:00 local time (07:00 GMT), and was subsequently escorted out of the building.

The Warsaw Defense Ministry later confirmed the detention of a long-serving employee, stating that he is accused of “collaborating with a foreign intelligence service,” without explicitly mentioning the involved country.

The Russian Embassy in Poland has not yet responded to requests for comments submitted by the agency Reuters.

Polish authorities maintain that Poland’s role as a logistics hub for aid provided to Ukraine has made the country a primary target for espionage activities, sabotage, and cyber attacks attributed to Russia. Moscow has repeatedly denied these allegations, in turn accusing Western countries of anti-Russian propaganda.

According to Onet, the detained man is currently under interrogation, and the Warsaw Defense Ministry stated that further arrests in this case cannot be ruled out.
