Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner’s visit to Moscow was planned since spring and postponed for several months. According to Bloomberg, Donald Trump’s envoys failed to convince Vladimir Putin to end the war.
After the meeting with Witkoff and Kushner, Putin remains determined to continue military actions, sources familiar with the situation told journalists. There would have been no progress during the discussions that lasted over three hours.
The Russian leader is said to have decided to conquer the entire Donetsk region and believes that the army can accomplish this task in the next six months, reports The Moscow Times.
The spokesperson for the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, announced on Monday that Vladimir Putin might have a phone conversation with Donald Trump. He also did not rule out the resumption of trilateral discussions between Russia, the USA, and Ukraine, although he mentioned that “it is too early to discuss the exact location and time”.
On the other hand, Witkoff stated following visits to Moscow and Kiev that there are “significant progress”.
Concurrently, the administration in Kiev maintains that the war could continue even this winter, and American negotiators have not come up with many new ideas regarding peace.
