What pro-war bloggers in Russia were desperately warning about is starting to happen. After almost simultaneously losing access to modern means of communication, Russian troops faced serious difficulties, went on the defensive in certain sectors of the front, and limited offensive operations with drones. At the same time, Ukrainian units are causing them greater losses, European officials and military personnel told Bloomberg.

High-ranking European diplomats have described the communication problems of the Russian army as significant. According to a NATO representative, some of Ukraine’s recent successes on the battlefield were possible because Russian soldiers were left without access to Starlink.

The Institute for the Study of War noted that Ukrainian forces have carried out several counterattacks in recent days, “probably taking advantage of recent dysfunctions of Russian Starlink and Telegram terminals.” According to ISW analysts, these problems have also affected the ability of the Center for Advanced Drone Technologies “Rubikon” to use short and medium range drones for strikes on Ukrainian positions. The communication problems “do not allow Russian troops to carry out these attacks with the same intensity and depth as in previous weeks,” ISW specified.
