“The moment, the planned concision, the sudden and one-sided nature of the announcement – if Ukraine’s allies needed any further proof of Russia’s incredible cynicism when it comes to peace, the announcement of an immediate Easter ceasefire is the perfect evidence, writes CNN.Putin’s announcement came less than 24 hours after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio publicly expressed frustration with the peace negotiations with the Russians, explicitly stating that the US may withdraw if no compromise is reached soon. The statement was partially echoed by Donald Trump, who, in his characteristic style, once again challenged Putin, saying that “nobody pulls his strings.”For Russia’s supporters, Putin’s Saturday announcement seemed like a sign of Trump’s word being respected, but the sudden manner in which the statement was made reveals the true intentions – it will be used by Putin to once again promote the false idea that Ukraine is the one who does not want peace. For the Ukrainian forces, a sudden cessation of hostilities at Putin’s command would be a logistical nightmare. Some positions on the front line are in the middle of fierce clashes when the order comes into effect, and such a ceasefire requires days of preparations and prior discussions. It will be difficult to transmit correct information across the front line in order for the ceasefire to be properly implemented and for troops to know how to report or respond to violations. Even the way in which they should act at the moment of the ceasefire needed to be discussed well in advance in order for this cessation of fire to be functional. It is possible that this ceasefire will be a rare moment of mutual understanding where both sides are able to stop fighting for a short period. However, most likely, the situation will be completely reversed – the so-called ceasefire will cause confusion and will be quickly violated, achieving its real goal of showing that you cannot trust your opponent. For more details, click HERE.”
