After flooding Moldova with anti-union banners, Igor Dodon claims that the Russians are to blame for not having a united country today. The socialist was asked what happened to Bessarabia in 1812, if, in his opinion, there was an “annexation” in 1918.

“In 1812, because the Russians rushed the negotiations, Moldova was divided into two. One part in Bessarabia and the other remained in the Ottoman Empire. The Russians are to blame for Moldova not being united now”, responded the pro-Russian deputy.

This week, the socialists from the Republic of Moldova have installed banners across the country with the text “The Republic of Moldova is not Romania”. According to them, this is a “patriotic information campaign”.

The PSRM has not announced from what sources it is financing this initiative, nor how much money it is spending on banners. When asked by journalists about the subject, Igor Dodon suggested they wait for the party’s financial report.
