Romania supports the 20th package of European Union sanctions against Russia. Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu states that Moscow uses not only conventional weapons in war, but also disinformation campaigns in an attempt to weaken the EU.
“Part of today’s discussion is about disinformation campaigns and how we manage the situation within the EU, to create a common capacity to identify, prevent and combat these disinformation campaigns. Romania is a country that has gone through these experiences and currently sees unauthentic behavior.
It is very important to clarify that a lie told online millions of times poses a significant risk to European democracies and that Russia uses not only conventional weapons in its war, but in its strategy to destabilize the EU, Moscow uses disinformation campaigns in an attempt to weaken the European Union. Romanians have shown this resilience, but we cannot take this as a solution that does not need institutional support, I am referring to increasing the resilience of society”, said Oana Țoiu.
The diplomat considers it necessary to increase international pressure on Russia. According to Oana Țoiu, adopting a new set of EU sanctions against Moscow is the correct strategy, and the European Union must ensure that Moscow does not increase its profits.
