Europe is not prepared to face a massive attack with Russian drones and must learn from Ukraine how to build a defense ecosystem, otherwise risking to commit a “historical error”, warned on Monday, the European Commissioner for Defense, Andrius Kubilius.
“We are not ready to detect and neutralize Russian drones”, he said in a speech held in Vilnius. “The Russians learn quickly. And us?”, he wondered.
The war in Ukraine has changed the rules of combat, he further emphasized. “Tomorrow’s wars will not be won with tanks and artillery, but with drones and missiles”, assured Andrius Kubilius, urging Europeans to learn from the Ukrainian experience.
Defense in Eastern Europe and in the Baltic countries must be done under these conditions together with Ukraine, he explained.
“This is the only way for us to learn from Ukraine, not only how to manufacture drones, but also how to build an entire ‘ecosystem’. If we do not do this, we will commit a historical error, which will weaken us and which will weaken Ukraine”, warned the European Commissioner for Defense.
