Indonesia has stepped up health checks at entry points into the country, including in Bali, following information from Russia about the death of an employee of the Irkutsk Antiepidemic Research Institute and the hospitalization of nearly 200 people who had contact with her.

The Indonesian Ministry of Health clarifies that the World Health Organization has not yet issued any alert that would impose special measures due to a possible risk of plague transmission. However, the authorities say they are closely monitoring the situation in Russia and have increased checks at airports and ports.

The measures are also applied in Bali, one of the main Asian destinations for Russian tourists. In just the first half of 2026 alone, the island was visited by nearly 130 thousand tourists from Russia.
