“Each new NATO member automatically becomes a target for Russian armed forces, ‘including for potential retaliatory strikes and even nuclear components,’ said Dmitry Medvedev, vice president of the Russian Security Council, during an ‘educational lecture marathon,’ as the Russian state news agency TASS calls it.
“The status of non-alignment has given them (Finland and Sweden) certain international advantages, given their geopolitical position and many other factors. Now they are part of a hostile bloc towards us, which means they have become automatic targets for our armed forces, including potential retaliatory strikes and even nuclear components or preventive measures within our military doctrine,” the Russian politician declared. Medvedev questioned the security that the countries that joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) have obtained.
“They have simply put themselves in the crosshairs of our armed forces. Has this improved their lives? No! These are political games,” Medvedev stated. According to him, the majority of people do not understand this.”
