The countries bordering the Baltic Sea want to create a joint task force for defense against drones. The existence of these subdivisions will allow them to respond quickly to threats and hybrid attacks, according to the German Interior Minister, Alexander Dobrindt.
The goal is to establish an operational group that would enable the rapid exchange of information, Dobrindt stated ahead of a meeting in the city of Flensburg, in northern Germany, with his counterparts from the countries located on the Baltic Sea coast.
“Foreign powers are trying daily to attack and undermine democracy, security, and economic power within the EU,” declared the interior minister in a comment regarding the purpose of the meeting.
At the same time, the official warned that such attacks could take on a new dimension in the coming months, and the hybrid threat remains omnipresent, writes realitatea.md, referring to news.ro.
Since Moscow launched its large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, in the Baltic Sea, bordered by eight NATO member countries and Russia, numerous incidents and potential sabotage actions have occurred, affecting the submarine cables and critical gas networks.
Germany is in a heightened state of alert, especially regarding drone threats, after an unmanned flying device with an explosive charge was discovered at the Leipzig airport earlier this month, and others were found nearby.
