Several German Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets took off on Thursday from the Nörvenich air base, near Köln, heading towards the Polish air base in Malbork, southeast of Gdansk, to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank, according to Agerpres.
The German air forces have stated that the relocation is a response to the most recent violations by Russia of NATO’s airspace in the Baltic region, in addition to kamikaze drone incursions.
The German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, announced the displacement in mid-October. This is planned to last until March.
“With this mission, our troops make a valuable contribution to the protection of NATO’s eastern region, along with our rapid reaction wing stationed in Romania since August,” declared the commander of the German air forces, Lieutenant General Holger Neumann.
