On June 17, Vladimir Putin arrived in the city of Kazan for a two-day visit. The Russia-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit is taking place there. This is the Russian president’s first trip to the region in seven months.
Last time, Putin went on a trip across the country to Samara. According to Meduza, the visit took place in November 2025.
The Russian president has practically stopped traveling around the country in the last six months. From January to May, Putin officially left Moscow only twice – both trips being to Saint Petersburg. In the same period of the year 2025, Vladimir Putin made eight regional trips. In 2024, there were 14 such trips, and in 2019 their number was 17.
According to a source close to the Kremlin, Putin’s refusal to travel around the country would be justified in light of concerns about security.
