New revelations emerge regarding high-level corruption acts involving Ukrainian businessman Timur Mindich, a close ally and business associate of President Volodimir Zelenski. He appears in the “bribes” case from Energoatom, but he is also accused of trying to pressure the former Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, to buy bulletproof vests from a certain company. The deal was ultimately not concluded.
This matter was reported by journalist Tetyana Nikolayenko, the vice-president of the Anti-Corruption Public Council within the Ministry of Defense.
It’s about the company “Milikon UA”, regarding which the Anti-Corruption Public Council from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense opposed “publicly and actively” the Ministry of Defense’s attempts to purchase bulletproof vests from this company.
According to Ukrainian press, Mindich was behind the corruption scheme. This scheme was not completed due to the alerts made by integrity whistleblowers, but the former Minister of Defense also appears in the case.
Rustem Umerov denied the accusations, stating that he canceled a procurement contract with a company linked to Mindich, because the supplied products were of low quality.
