Prisoners in Belarusian jails have been ordered to produce supplies for the Russian Army, from camouflage equipment to coffins and plastic flowers for soldiers’ graves, revealed a Novaya Gazeta report, quoted by The Times.

Although soldiers from Belarus, the Kremlin’s biggest ally in Europe, are not fighting in Ukraine, the country’s leader, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has allowed Russia to use the country as a platform for its invasion.

The entire Belarusian penitentiary system has been put on a war footing to cope with demands from Moscow, according to a report by Novaya Gazeta, a Russian opposition website.

One prisoner recalled recognizing the coffins he had made while watching a television report about the funerals of Russian troops.

“Look, those are our coffins,” he told the other convicts.

Prisoners also make crates for artillery shells, frames for field beds, envelopes for recruitment notices and death certificates, and plastic flowers for the graves of Russian soldiers.
