China is prepared to defend the “legitimate interests” of Iran, in the context of the Middle East war. Tehran and the USA have been urged by Beijing to show restraint and return to the memorandum concluded in June, conveyed the head of Chinese diplomacy, in a discussion with his Iranian counterpart.
The head of Chinese diplomacy, Wang Yi, and the Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, discussed shortly before President Xi Jinping’s visit to the USA and the planned meeting with American President Donald Trump, reports Agerpres. The conflict in the Middle East was among the topics included on the discussion agenda.
“China and Iran are bound by a global strategic partnership. China is willing to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with Iran and effectively defend its legitimate rights and interests”, declared Wang Yi.
China is one of Iran’s main economic partners. Beijing buys a large part of its oil from Tehran and is one of the diplomatic supporters of the Iranian regime.
“We encourage Iran and the United States to show rationality and restraint, as well as to quickly return to the memorandum of understanding concluded in June with Pakistan’s mediation and to restructure the negotiation mechanisms. We do not want to see regional tensions extending into Yemen and the Red Sea,” further stated the head of Chinese diplomacy.
