Russia is reportedly preparing for a new mass mobilization of reservists and widespread disorder, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). The Russian Ministry of Defense, military unit commanders, and the state guard have been granted access to the unified state register of civil status acts.
On July 26, Vladimir Putin enacted a law that provides for the “optimization of military records of citizens,” reports The Moscow Times. According to the document, the Russian Ministry of Defense will be able to obtain information about military personnel, civilian employees of the armed forces, reservists, and their family members, it writes.
The authorities justify the decision by the fact that access is necessary so that social support measures can be granted more quickly to these citizens.
Recently, Russians have been summoned to police stations for data updates, after which special lists of those who “could be useful to the army” are created. Human rights defenders qualify these procedures as potential preparation for mobilization.
At the same time, the international press writes that Russia would have begun to prepare training grounds for the new recruits. According to pro-Russian Telegram channels, about 1.2 million people could be recruited in October.
