Starting from September, students from the Transnistrian region will participate, every Monday, before the first lesson, in the flag-raising ceremony of the so-called flag of the region and the singing of the so-called anthem.
The decision was approved by an order of the so-called Ministry of Education in Tiraspol, signed on July 31. The ceremony will take place in the schoolyard, in the gym, or in the hallway of the institution, depending on the weather conditions, according to IPN. The location will be determined by the school administration.
At the ceremony, students, teachers, and parents will participate. The flag-raising will be done by a group of students with good academic or sports results. At the end of the week, every Friday, the flag will also be lowered as part of a ceremony.
According to the authorities in Tiraspol, through this measure, the alleged authorities aim to increase students’ respect for “state symbols and to contribute to the cultivation of patriotism”.
The action is inspired by Russia. There, from September 2022, each study week begins with the singing of the anthem and the hoisting of the flag. This measure was implemented following the invasion of Ukraine, and Russian authorities claimed they wanted to increase patriotism in this way, incorporating into the school curriculum information about the “special military operation”.
