The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, has stated that 26 member states of the European Union have confirmed their willingness to participate in the creation of a special tribunal on the events of the war against Ukraine, reports Radio Svoboda.

“Today, 26 member states have made a commitment to become participants in this tribunal,” said Kallas. According to her, Brussels is awaiting the cost estimate, including from the Netherlands, after which work on the project will continue.

The creation of the tribunal was proposed in 2022 by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The structure is to be formed within the Council of Europe, an organization from which Russia withdrew in the same year.

The Kremlin has stated that Russia will not recognize the legitimacy of such a tribunal. The countries advocating for its creation “adopt an absolutely unilateral and unconstructive position,” Moscow maintains.
