After suffering a heavy defeat in the latest local elections, the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, is once again flirting with the idea of abandoning his own red lines when it comes to Brexit, as he faces a new battle to save his government, reports Politico.
The Prime Minister of London is facing a new battle to save his political career and government after a disastrous result in the most recent local elections in the UK.
Leaders of the Labour Party have called for him to resign following last week’s result.
In a defiant speech on Monday, however, the British Prime Minister said he would set “a new direction” for the United Kingdom at the next EU summit in Brussels, where he would like to “propose a platform on which we can build” stronger ties with the European Union.
“The previous government was defined by the rupture of our relationship with Europe. This Labour government will be defined by the rebuilding of our relationship with Europe by placing Great Britain at the heart of Europe, in such a way that we are stronger economically, stronger commercially and stronger in the field of defence,” he told Labour activists and parliamentarians.
