Latvia will impose a ban on the import of a series of goods from Russia and Belarus, which will come into effect on September 1.
After the parliament approved the import ban in July, the government has now set the date of its entry into force and finalized the list of affected product groups, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, according to DPA and Agerpres.
The prohibition covers books, newspapers and other printed materials, clothing and other textile products, footwear, toys, games and sports equipment.
In the future, the import of these articles into the Baltic states, members of the EU and NATO, will no longer be permitted, not even from third countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the measure aims to protect the security interests of Latvia. Furthermore, it is intended to reduce export revenues from Russia and Belarus and to restrict the import of Russian propaganda materials.
