Russia wanted to turn Moldova into a “second Belarus”. Thus, the Kremlin intended to use our country’s territory to attack Ukraine and act against the EU, said Maia Sandu at the Security Forum in Chisinau.
The head of state says that Moldovans have thwarted the plan in the elections, twice, writes tv8.md. In her speech, the president spoke about the direct contribution to regional security, the experience gained in combating hybrid warfare, and the need for European integration as the most solid security guarantee.
“The border with the Republic of Moldova is the longest segment that Ukraine shares with a friendly state. Because Moldova is on the right side of history, Ukraine can keep its forces where the war is being fought, in the east,” Sandu conveyed.
The head of state revealed that the Kremlin’s plan was to destabilize the country and use its territory against its neighbors.
“This was Russia’s plan. It wanted to turn Moldova into a second Belarus and use our territory against Ukraine and the EU. The Moldovans stopped this plan at the elections, twice,” the president further said.
Maia Sandu also mentioned that Moldova has become a logistical hub for exports and supplies to Ukraine.
Referring to the threats facing the country, the president drew attention to drone incidents and hybrid attacks, as well as misinformation, stating that “Moldova has become a laboratory for Russian electoral interference.”
