White House national security advisor Mike Waltz warns that Russia and Ukraine should hurry up to reach a peace agreement before President Trump loses his patience, in an editorial published on Tuesday by The National Interest.
“In his inaugural speech, President Trump stated that the most important legacy he wants to leave is the impression that he is a ‘peacemaker and unifier’. Nowhere has this ambition been more evident than in his efforts to end the devastating conflict in Ukraine. After years of hesitant and contradictory foreign policy under the Biden administration, only President Trump has managed to bring both Russia and Ukraine to the negotiation table. Intense weeks of diplomacy have led to a common understanding of the necessary steps to achieve peace. At this point, both parties must act quickly to finalize an agreement before President Trump loses his patience,” Mike Waltz wrote.
According to Waltz, “the safety of Americans is an ongoing effort and there is still much to be done”, but “President Trump has brought our nation back to a national security policy based on common sense, America first, and Americans are already safer because of it”.
“At one hundred days into the historic second term of President Trump, America is much safer than it was during the disastrous presidency of Joe Biden,” Waltz added.
